Qu'est-ce qu'un diagramme en boite ?

Un diagramme en boîte —appelé aussi boîte à moustaches— met en évidence cinq des paramètres d'une série statistique : le minimum, le premier quartile, la médiane, le troisième quartile et le maximum.
Voici comment :
A box and whisker plot with the left end of the whisker labeled min, the right end of the whisker is labeled max. The beginning of the box is labeled Q 1. The end of the box is labeled Q 3. The line that divides the box is labeled median.

Exemple

On donne la série des masses de 10 caisses de raisin :
25, 28, 29, 29, 30, 34, 35, 35, 37, 38
Construire le diagramme en boîte de cette série.
1 - On ordonne les valeurs de la série dans l'ordre croissant.
La série est déjà ordonnée dans l'ordre croissant.
25, 28, 29, 29, 30, 34, 35, 35, 37, 38
2 - On détermine la médiane.
La médiane est la demi-somme des deux valeurs du milieu :
25, 28, 29, 29, 30, 34, 35, 35, 37, 38
30+342=32
La médiane est égale à 32.
3 - On détermine les quartiles.
Le premier quartile est la médiane des valeurs strictement inférieures à la médiane de la série.
25, 28, 29, 29, 30
Q1=29
Le troisième quartile est la médiane des valeurs strictement supérieures à la médiane de la série.
34, 35, 35, 37, 38
Q3=35
4 - On détermine le minimum et le maximum.
Le minimum de la série est 25.
Le maximum de la série est 38.
Les cinq paramètres utiles sont 25, 29, 32, 35, 38.

Voici sa construction.
1 - On choisit la partie utile de la droite graduée et une unité.

2 - On trace le corps de la boîte et le trait vertical qui marque la médiane.
Q1=29, la médiane est égale à 32, Q3=35.

3 - On trace les "moustaches".
Min =25 et Max =38.

Le minimum, les quartiles, la médiane et le maximum, partagent la série en quatre groupes constitués chacun d'environ 25% de ses valeurs.

Que déduire des valeurs des quartiles ?

Quel est environ le pourcentage des caisses de raisin qui ont une masse strictement supérieure à 29 g ?
